9/2/12 silver fishing Soldotna ak

Well we were up at 5am today for a lower kenai fishing trip for silver salmon. Nothing eventful got to the lodge at 6 and ready for the 630 departure to get on the water. Well we were ready but they had us paired up with a couple that was very late and not ready like 15 mins late. In fishing times this is late and everyone else was out on the water in the prime holes stealing our fish. Well I will try and put this gently but these people were not prepared in any way. No rain gear poor layers of clothing and very novice fishers. Well everyone has to learn but be ready for the weather. The girl was so cold and I could tell and was worried it would hamper my trip luckily the guide was not very helpful and they were timid so it didn't hurt our trip. The fishing was slow at first and they we moved to another area and trip some back trolling. Well all I can say is this water moves so fast that we put th e lines out like anchored and the boat is in gear in forward gear and we slowly drift backwards. Well almost instantly I struck a silver and put it in the box as a keeper. Well the was the last silver we see all day, kept getting strikes from pink salmon, which at this point in their spawn is not a good catch and is just released. But it wasnt for lack of effort we moved up and down the river and same thing until 330 at which point we moved back in. The fish I caught was weighed in at 10 pounds and had it filet up and will eat over the next couple days for dinner.

Only a short trip today to get to dads fishing guide which is in sterling alaska. He has a free spot for us to park the rv with electric and staying here for the night.
